The Power of Growing YOU!

Ok, so is it just me that does this from time to time?  You look at all the things and people around you, and want to change everything and everyone else to make life better, easier, more enjoyable, less frustrating, more peaceful, more fun?  Like, “If only my child would stop whining in the morning, I’d feel better and have a much more enjoyable morning.”  or “If only the weather was nicer, I’d be in a better mood.” or “If only I could change this person or fix their attitude, maybe life would be hunky dory.” etc.   I don’t think it’s just me that struggles with wanting to change things that are out of my control occasionally, because I know King David in the Bible struggled with the same thing and had to remind himself not to focus on things he couldn’t control.  In Ps. 131, he wrote:

“I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.  But I have calmed and quieted myself. . . . put your hope in the Lord both now and forevermore.”

I read this in my devotional today and it was a great reminder of where our energy and attention should be placed — working on and changing ourselves.  Amazingly, things change when we change.

“‘When I was young, I set out to change the world. When I grew a little older, I perceived that this was too ambitious, so I set out to change my state. This too, I realized as I grew older, was too ambitious, so I set out to change my town. When I realized I could not even do this, I tried to change my family. Now as an old man, I know that I should have started by changing myself. If I had started with myself, maybe then I would have succeeded in changing my family, the town, or even the state — and who knows, maybe even the world.’” — From a Hassidic Rabbi (Quote from my devotional — Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day

What are you doing to work on YOU today? You will be amazed how changing YOU changes sooooo much around you! Want your situation to change, relationships to be stronger, body and mind to be healthier? GROW YOU! It’s not easy. It can be darn right HARD! But the HARD is oh so worth it!  It takes faithful day in and day out work — even when you don’t feel like it.  Sometimes your efforts will seem insignificant, like what you did didn’t even matter, but take heart.  The compounding effect works over time to gradually transform you into a better version of you.

What are you doing to grow YOU today?!?  Need a personal growth plan?  Need accountability?  Need encouragement?  Share your personal growth goals with me.  I would be honored to walk this journey with you!
